Chaplain Portal

  • FR1 strives to ensure that our chaplains are well trained and involved in continuing education. According to our "FR1 Volunteer Chaplain Policy & Operating Procedure," the expectation is that our chaplains will: 1) attend, as available, relevant seminars and training, guided by procedures as recognized and endorsed by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and 2) seek additional continuing education, as available, seminars and training related to chaplaincy, pastoral counseling and wellness. For that reason, we are providing this "FR1 Chaplain Training Plan" to offer guidance on the progression of chaplain training recommended by the FR1 leadership. This progression involves basic chaplain training, continuing education and advanced continuing education. (Please let Lonnie know if you need reimbursement for continuing education courses completed.)

  • Chaplains understand that a traumatic event can cause first responders to experience unusually strong emotional reactions, which have potential for interference with their ability to function either at the scene or afterward. This "Signs and Symptoms of Stress" handout is a helpful resource for participants who attend a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.

  • Coping with the suicide of a fellow officer is a challenging and deeply personal experience. This handout is designed to be a resource for officers who are dealing with the suicide of a colleague. It provides practical steps for managing grief and supporting each other in the aftermath of such an event.

  • This resource for FR1 Chaplains is for the purpose of reporting possible child abuse and/or neglect. Only the first page applies to you as a Chaplain. The rest is the responsibility of the Department of Social Services.

As Chaplains, we are mandated to report if there is cause to suspect that a child is or has been abused or neglected. As such, the counseling confidentiality between you and the person you are interacting with in the performance of your Chaplain duties is no longer in effect if you suspect that a child has been or is being abused. Your report will be made to the Department of Social Services in the county where the child resides. The report may be made orally, by telephone, or in writing. The only information reportable by us is what we have discovered per what is listed in this handout. (We DO NOT report our beliefs or opinions about the situation – only facts as we know them.)
